A Healthy Heart

How Fit is Your Heart?
Cardioscan is an easy, quick and uninvasive way to display the physical condition of the heart. Through the placement of electrodes on the ankles and wrists the impulses generated by the heart are digitalised and displayed as a a three-dimensional image showing the condition of the heart. The information collected from the scan is then assesssed to assist with appropriate training recommendations. Cardioscan does not make a diagnosis in terms of a medical ECG but rather a snapshot of the current condition of the cardiovascular system.

Cardioscans are conducted by qualified staff only and avalible to members as well as non-members. Bookings for a Cardioscan are essential and consultations take around 15-20 minutes. The consultation includes an assessment, a print out of the Cardioscan as well as a discussion and recommendation for your cardiovascular training.

There are many different types of water filtration available to consumers nowadays which raises the question, how do you know which water is right for you?

Below is a brief description on each type of filtration we offer, to help make this complex decision a little easier for you…

‘Standard’ Water Filters come in two types; pitchers & carafe-style filters and carbon block & granular carbon filters. In recent years, pitchers & carafe-style filters have emerged as lowcost alternatives to tap water and bottled water and although they do offer a slightly improved alternative to tap water, they have very limited effectiveness and a low capacity.

The Aquasana System differs in that it is a multi-media block filter; the Aquasana utilizes the benefits of activated carbon with several added advantages. A blended media is extruded or compressed into a solid form with a sub-micron pore structure to filter out sediment and cysts like Cryptosporidium and Giardia. This configuration also prevents water from channeling around the filter media. The ion exchange removes things like lead that carbon will not remove. It is an additional stage that provides higher quality water, and also enhances pH by adding potassium ions to the water. In addition to being a carbon and ion-exchange filter, it is also a mechanical filter down to .5 microns.

Carbon Block and Granular Carbon Filters are the most common styles of countertop and under-the-sink systems (point of use). Granular carbon filters and carbon block systems use the same process of contaminant removal, adsorption, by which the contaminant bonds chemically or physically to the surface of the filter medium. Activated carbon is recognized by the U.S. EPA as the best available technology for filtering VOCs and THMs. For best performance it is essential that a multi stage process be used to filter out a wide range of contaminants.

Water Distillers

Distilled Water combines steam distillation and coconut shell carbon filtration, resulting in the removal of all fluoride and 99.8% of impurities from the water. The concept of living juice was first introduced by Dr. Norman Walker (1874-1983). Dr Walker declared that the enzymes in fruit and vegetables die at temperatures which exceed 50 degrees Celsius. He explained that any juice extractor that used a high-speed blade or centrifuge created friction heat leading to the destruction of enzymes. Nutritionists advise plenty of fresh, raw fruit and vegetables as essential to well-being but we only obtain the maximum benefits from them when the goodness is released from the fibre. Juicing will provide a highly concentrated nutrient drink. For optimum benefits the process must extract the goodness without destroying vital enzymes through heat. “Living Juicers” work on a gentle crushing and squeezing principle and living juice extracted at a low temperature holds up to 60% more minerals, vitamins and living enzymes.

The conventional / centrifugal juicer

Centrifugal juicers work by using a flat cutting blade at the base of a rapidly spinning strainer. Heat, static electricity and large amounts of air are drawn in; nutrients are destroyed as oxidation occurs. Essential enzymes in fruit and vegetable juice die at temperatures exceeding 50 degrees Celsius. Any juice extractor using a high-speed blade or centrifuge creates friction heat and destroys vital nutrients. Juicing machines will allow you to take control of the quality of the produce, but extraction methods can still destroy vital nutrients, vitamins and living enzymes.

How the conventional / centrifugal juicer works..

The centrifugal force passes the produce through tiny holes in the strainer. The strainers are difficult to clean and they can’t juice wheatgrass or leafy green vegetables effectively and economically. The pulp builds up in the strainer and the machine needs to be periodically emptied, making continuous juicing impossible. So there’s a lot of noise, a poor quality juice, a stop & start process, a large amount of wasted produce (wet pulp – not dry) and a difficult clean up afterward. No wonder so many people buy a juicer with good intentions for their health and the health of their loved ones and then give up shortly afterward!

Pre-packed juice

Pre-packed juices have lost most of their nutritional value which is then artificially supplemented after the reconstitution process. The result is an acidic, adulterated product which was never ‘cold pressed’ in the first place. A pure ‘living juice’ has the preferred alkalizing effect on the body and only Living Juice extractors create this superior Living Juice.
